While a lot of men out there do enjoy shopping and are quite good at picking fashionable clothes for themselves, there are just some guys at the total opposite corner who think of shopping as another boring chore that they’d rather avoid. If such a guy is your partner and you are the type who at the thought of buying clothes, shoes and bags easily becomes excited, then going shopping together is probably a challenging aspect in your relationship. You’ve probably tried (and failed) many times to convince him to go shopping with you because yes, he needs to buy his stuff too—and no we’re not talking about the tools and toys that he would rather spend his money on.
Picking out new clothes with your man who is shopping-averse can indeed be a challenge, but with the following tips, you can make the experience less of a headache and actually fun.
Don’t force him into it. Take your time in convincing him.
Remember that time when you were forced to watch his favourite sports or movie that you did not want to see? You probably didn’t enjoy it even if you pretended you did. Your man could also feel the same when you force him to shop with you. Whether you’re visiting a shopping centre or doing it online, you have to take your time in convincing him to accompany you so that he won’t dread the whole experience. Maybe you can start by showing him some photos of products that you think he would like.
Now if it is really hard to get him to go out just to shop for clothes, why not browse through products online instead. You can check out Oh Big Man for example as they have a wide range of jeans, casual wear, T shirts, suits and polo shirts on offer. Their collection of large men’s clothing online is popular among customers for great style and reliable quality.
Put him first all the time.
It’s so easy to get distracted, but you should avoid this at all costs. Men generally dislike the idea of shopping with their partners because they end up in stores that only sell products for women and look like personal bodyguards carrying their partner’s shopping bags. You don’t want this to happen, which is why you have to make sure that he is your priority for this shopping trip. Save those visits to your favourite online stores or boutiques for later and let this be all about him. Draft a shopping list that will make sure you get everything that he needs and pay attention to his cues. You can also do some research ahead of time and bookmark online shops or remember stores that carry items that he’ll like.
Finally, learn to pick your battles. Your guy could choose some products that you don’t like for him and you probably want to say your piece about it, but don’t, as this could only result in arguments. Give your opinion properly and don’t take away the freedom of buying his stuff from him. Remember that guys are usually responsive to logic and reason so make sure that you get your point across properly to avoid killing his groove.
At the end of the day, shopping with your man should be a happy experience for both of you. He may not be able to understand the point of visiting stores or browsing through online shops right away, but as long as he sees that you’re in this with him, he’ll surely appreciate it.
